SABIN ACQUIRES WESTERN REFINING FACILITY FOR PRECIOUS METALS RECOVERY FROM SPENT CATALYSTS

The 120,000 sq. ft. facility in Williston, ND employs electric arc furnace technology to recover precious metals from catalysts used by petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical processing organizations

Sabin Metal Corp., East Hampton, NY precious metals refiner has purchased a 120,000 sq. ft. processing facility in Williston, ND, according to an announcement from Sabin President Andrew Sabin. In conjunction with this acquisition a new organization – Sabin Metal West – was formed to operate the new plant.

The Williston facility is specially equipped to sample and process soluble and insoluble alumina, silica-alumina, and zeolite PGM supports from petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical processing organizations. An electric arc furnace at the facility augments the company’s existing precious metals refining capabilities, thus allowing the company to serve a broader customer base, according to Sabin.

The new facility is expected to be fully operational in early 2001, and will operate as an adjunct to the company’s main refinery in Scottsville, NY. In his announcement, Sabin commented that, "We acquired the facility to maximize precious metals recovery and enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness; processed spent catalyst materials from Williston will undergo final refining at our Scottsville facility, while slag containing precious metal bearing materials will be further processed at SMC (Canada) Ltd., our Cobalt, Ontario facility for final extraction." These procedures eliminate the need for outside organizations, thus reducing refining charges, and assuring safe, liability free disposition while helping maximizing precious metals returns to customers.

Sabin Metal Corp. is the largest privately owned precious metals refinery in the United States, now in its 55th year. Sabin gold, silver, platinum, and palladium is accepted on the NYMEX/COMEX, and Sabin platinum and palladium is accepted for delivery on the London/Zurich market. The company’s 500,000 sq.ft. refining facility near Rochester, NY uses advanced technology methods and equipment to achieve the highest possible metal recovery at the lowest possible processing cost. The refinery adjoins the state’s "most protected trout stream" and no hazardous production waste is shipped from this facility.
